This rod excels in skip casting situations, where the lure is literally skipped along the surface like a flat stone to reach deep in behind overhanging trees and branches. Rod length is critical: too short and the angle of the cast into the water can result in the lure digging in; too long and the rod tip will flick the surface of the water, ruining the cast.
As well as skip casting, this rod is extremely accurate, allowing lures to be placed precisely between mangrove trees and branches of snags.
Once hooked, these fish can need some dragging out, and the Skip-H has the power to do it. The secret lies in the unique action that is the perfect combination of casting finesse and fish extraction! And not just barra - 'Jacks, 'toga in fact any big species that likes to snag dwell.
This action also lends itself well to river and billabong trolling, if a spin reel is your choice for this application.
The blank itself is constructed of the tough Armour-40-5 multi-directional graphite, giving tip-to-butt reinforcement without excessive weight. And this rod has beautiful balance to it which always assists in accuracy casting and reducing fatigue during a session.
The multi-guide train of the latest Fuji Fazlite KR guides run true and easy and further enhances the overall casting and retrieving smoothness of this rod performance.
Incorporated into the handle is the G-Clutch spin seat. This exclusive reel seat not only sits comfortably in the palm of your hand, it allows for a positive single-handed grip for repetitive casting and fish fighting. It also allows for your thumb and forefinger to directly contact the blank, which gives immediate feedback if retrieving lures such as weedless, unweighted soft plastics.
The reel seat height is short enough to allow for plenty of rod manoeuvring while getting creative with casting angles, yet long enough to lock under the forearm for leverage when stopping a fish in the sticks.
So get ready to skip a topwater frog lure perfectly in the strike zone; get twitching and be ready to get down and dirty around the thickest fish cover!
Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.
