Shimano Stella FK Spin Reel
The Shimano Stella FK combines Shimano's Infinity technologies with refined gearing, line management and Duracross drag. This listing covers five options, from the lightweight 1000 through to the higher-capacity compact 5000XG.
Choose around your rod balance, line requirements and preferred retrieve speed. The model number alone does not tell the whole story: the listed 2500HG and compact 3000XG share the same weight, as do the 4000XG and compact 5000XG.
1000: the lightest option
The 1000 lists a weight of 165g, a 5.1:1 gear ratio and 64cm retrieve per crank. Consider it for a light finesse outfit where keeping reel weight down matters more than the capacity of the larger options.
Its listed maximum drag is 3kg, with PE capacity of PE0.8/240m or PE1/190m.
2500HG versus 3000XG
Both list 210g weight and 9kg maximum drag. Their practical differences are retrieve speed and line capacity.
- 2500HG: A 5.8:1 ratio and 86cm retrieve per crank. Consider it when you prefer less line pickup per handle turn than the 3000XG. Listed PE1.5 capacity is 220m.
- 3000XG: Identified as compact 3000XG in the specifications, with a 6.4:1 ratio and 94cm retrieve per crank. Choose it when faster slack pickup and additional capacity suit your fishing without increasing listed reel weight. Listed PE1.5 capacity is 270m.
The 3000XG's faster pickup can help recover slack between lure movements, but it does not mean every lure should be worked faster. Adjust handle speed to the presentation.
4000XG versus 5000XG
Both list 260g weight, a 6.2:1 gear ratio, 101cm retrieve per crank and 11kg maximum drag. Capacity is a key distinction, not greater listed retrieve speed or drag.
- 4000XG: Listed PE2 capacity is 240m. Consider it when that capacity suits your outfit and fishing location.
- 5000XG: Identified as compact 5000XG in the specifications. Listed capacities include PE2/300m and PE3/200m. Choose it when the additional capacity better suits your planned line and fishing, without increasing listed reel weight over the 4000XG.
These options suit consideration for larger lure outfits than the lightest models, provided the rod, line and intended fishing technique are appropriately matched.

Reading the specifications
PE capacities use line size number followed by metres, not breaking strain in pounds. Mono capacities use line diameter in millimetres followed by metres. Actual capacity varies with line diameter and spooling.
Retrieve figures are listed line pickup per handle turn and change with spool fill. Maximum drag is not a recommended working setting; set drag to suit the complete rod, line, leader and knot system.
