Daiwa 23 Tatula Baitcaster Rods

The Daiwa 23 Tatula range combines SVF Nanoplus blanks, X45X Full Shield construction and Fuji Alconite guides across 16 baitcast and swimbait options. The lineup covers lighter presentations, general lure casting, regular-taper choices and dedicated larger-bait models.

Lighter baitcast choices

• 661LFB: One piece, 6ft6in, fast taper, listed 3–14g casting range and 2–5kg line rating. A lightweight baitcasting option ideally suited to Bass, Estuary Perch, Bream and Redfin using small hardbodies, soft plastics and finesse presentations.

• 691MLRB: One piece, 6ft9in, regular taper, 5–18g and 3–6kg. Well suited to Bass, Estuary Perch, Flathead and smaller Murray Cod, particularly when fishing crankbaits, spinnerbaits and other moving lures.

• 702MLFB: A 7ft butt-joint model with a fast taper, 5–21g and 3–6kg ratings. A versatile option for Bass, Flathead, Estuary Perch and smaller Barramundi, offering additional casting length for hardbodies and soft plastics.

7–28g fast-taper models: choose your length

These three models share a listed 7–28g casting range, 5–9kg line rating and fast taper. Suitable for Bass, Murray Cod, Barramundi and Mangrove Jack, depending on the fishing environment.

• 601MHFB: One piece, 6ft. A compact option for Barramundi, Mangrove Jack and Murray Cod, particularly when casting around timber, snags and other structure.

• 661MHFB: One piece, 6ft6in. A versatile option for Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Murray Cod and larger Bass using hardbodies, spinnerbaits and soft plastics.

• 702MHFB: 7ft, two-piece butt-joint configuration. Well suited to Barramundi, Murray Cod and Mangrove Jack, with additional length for casting medium-weight lures across open water and around structure.

Heavier fast-taper baitcast options

• 601HFB: One piece, 6ft, fast taper, 10–35g and 6–12kg. A powerful shorter option for Barramundi, Mangrove Jack and Murray Cod, particularly when accurate casting around heavy structure is required.

• 661HFB: One piece, 6ft6in, fast taper, 14–40g and 6–12kg. Well suited to Barramundi, Murray Cod and Mangrove Jack using larger hardbodies, spinnerbaits and soft plastics.

• 702HFB: 7ft, butt joint, fast taper, 15–60g and 6–12kg. A versatile heavier baitcasting option for Murray Cod, Barramundi and larger Mangrove Jack, particularly when casting substantial hardbodies and soft plastics.

• 732HFB: 7ft3in, butt joint, fast taper, listed maximum 100g and 9–15kg. Suitable for Murray Cod and large Barramundi using heavier swimbaits, glidebaits and oversized hardbody lures. 

Longer regular-taper options

These models feature regular tapers, making them worth considering for moving lures and reaction-style presentations where a more progressive loading action is desirable.

• 722MRB: 7ft2in, butt joint, regular taper, 7–28g and 4–7kg. Well suited to Bass, Murray Cod, Barramundi and Flathead, particularly when fishing crankbaits, hardbodies and other moving lures.

• 762MHRB: 7ft6in, butt joint, regular taper, 7–32g and 4–7kg. A longer option for Bass, Murray Cod, Barramundi and Flathead, particularly when additional casting distance is beneficial for crankbaits and reaction lures.

• 782HRB: 7ft8in, butt joint, regular taper, 14–64g and 9–15kg. A heavier option for Murray Cod and Barramundi using larger crankbaits, spinnerbaits and substantial hardbody lures.

Swimbaits: two lengths at a 220g maximum

Both models list a fast taper, 15–24kg line rating and maximum casting weight of 220g. Primarily suited to targeting Murray Cod and large Barramundi with oversized swimbaits and glidebaits.

• 691XHFB-SB: One piece, 6ft9in, fast taper, 220g maximum and 15–24kg. A powerful shorter swimbait rod suited to Murray Cod and large Barramundi, particularly where casting accuracy and close-range lure control are priorities.

• 762XHFB-SB: 7ft6in, butt joint, fast taper, 220g maximum and 15–24kg. Designed for heavy swimbait applications targeting Murray Cod and large Barramundi, with additional length for casting oversized soft swimbaits and glidebaits.

792XXHFB-SB: the heavier swimbait ceiling

• 792XXHFB-SB: 7ft9in, butt joint, fast taper, 250g maximum and 15–24kg. An extra-heavy swimbait option primarily suited to targeting trophy Murray Cod and large Barramundi with oversized swimbaits and glidebaits. Its longer format and higher casting ceiling make it worth considering for anglers throwing particularly large presentations where maximum lure weight and casting distance are important.

A maximum casting weight is not necessarily the ideal weight for every cast. Include hooks, rings and additional rigging in the total lure weight, and confirm suitability when fishing close to the upper limit.

Before you choose

All options here are baitcast or swimbait configurations, not spin rods. Match the full model code to the specifications and assess reel, line, lure weight and intended technique together.

Line ratings are not recommended drag settings. Set working drag to suit your rod, line, leader and knots. A two-piece butt-joint rod is not the same transport format as an equal-section two-piece rod; confirm packed dimensions if storage matters.
