Product Description

The Daiwa 23 Wilderness X series has been purpose-built for anglers who want a true travel rod platform capable of handling serious Australian fishing applications without the compromises traditionally associated with multi-piece rods.

Developed from two of Daiwa’s most popular Australian light tackle rod families — TD Hyper and TD Black — the Wilderness X range takes proven technique-specific tapers and transforms them into a fully dedicated travel rod series with expanded model options and improved portability.

Designed specifically around modern travel fishing, the Wilderness X rods feature compact 4-piece and 5-piece constructions that dramatically reduce packed length, making them easy to fit into backpacks, overhead luggage, touring setups and compact travel storage. Whether hiking remote rivers, flying interstate for barra trips, road-tripping the coastline or travelling internationally, the Wilderness X range is built to go wherever the fishing takes you.

At the core of the range is Daiwa’s proven V-JOINT ferrule technology. Using a specialised bias carbon wrap within the ferrule sections, V-JOINT eliminates the flat spots and weak transitions commonly found in traditional travel rods. The result is a remarkably smooth blank action that loads, recovers and fights fish much closer to a true one-piece rod.

Further enhancing overall rod performance is Daiwa’s X45 blank construction. This advanced carbon bias wrapping system dramatically reduces blank twist during casting and under heavy load, improving casting accuracy, power transfer and overall blank responsiveness. Combined with HVF Nanoplus graphite construction, the rods maintain a lightweight, crisp and highly responsive feel while still delivering impressive durability and lifting strength for demanding fishing conditions.

One of the standout strengths of the Wilderness X lineup is its incredible versatility. The range includes finesse spin models suited to trout, bream and bass fishing, longer estuary-style rods for soft plastics and hardbodies, heavier barra and cod baitcaster models, and even dedicated swimbait options capable of casting oversized hardbodies and glidebaits.

Fast taper actions throughout the range improve casting precision, lure responsiveness and hook-setting power while maintaining excellent fish-fighting control. Whether working finesse plastics around structure, twitching hardbodies in estuary systems, skipping lures under mangroves or throwing swimbaits for trophy fish, the Wilderness X range maintains crisp and highly fishable performance across a huge variety of techniques.

Purpose-built for travelling Australian anglers, the Daiwa 23 Wilderness X series delivers genuine travel convenience without compromising the lightweight responsiveness and technique-specific performance modern lure anglers expect.
