At 6’0” the rod is designed to be able to easily and quickly deploy a rigged bait into the wake and short enough to be user-friendly when fighting fish with heavy drag. The ‘POWER TRIP’ blank design boasts a user-friendly tip action that’s easy to load, while the lower half of the rod has plenty of fight in reserve once the rod loads and power is tripped!
The 1pc blank construction is designed to be as robust as possible while still being light in the hand.
The handle section is boat-friendly for a wide range of rod holders, and the reel height is comfortable to fish with by a wide range of anglers.
Starting at the butt end, an alloy gimbal fitting locks the outfit in place when in a rod holder or gimbal belt. The rear grip is a hard-wearing ‘slick butt’ synthetic rear grip that guarantees smooth operation when moving the rod into and out of rod holders, even when under load.
The Fuji reel seat carries the longer ‘LD’ locking hood for easier tightening of a large spin reel and an alloy extension makes it easier to fit the large feet of spin reels used for game fishing.
The fore grips are Ian’s original split grip design in x-hard blue Camoufish EVA. This unique design has several advantages, including a shorter grip next to the reel seat for general handling; a longer fighting grip for a higher reach to reduce leverage while fighting; the gap between grips allows for a positive grip when performing a hook-set, holding the loaded rod while positioning into a gimbal belt, and an easy option for wrapping a webbing attachment if a harness is needed.
All grips are custom shaped for fish fighting and trimmed with alloy winding checks in gun metal colour. All other handle components are trimmed with gun metal coloured alloy separators.
Ian’s guide train of choice for this rod is the Fuji ‘Slim Ring’ SiC ceramics in KW frame style for tangle-free operation, including an extra-large stripper guide. This gives smooth operation for both free-spooling and fighting, excellent knot clearance for all conventional knot types and low line friction via SiC ceramics, stainless steel frames are the latest shiny grey colour plating.
