Shimano Saragosa SWA Spinning Reel
The Shimano Saragosa SWA is a saltwater spinning reel for anglers who want a strong, smooth setup for offshore fishing. HAGANE Body and HAGANE Gear construction combine with Infinity Drive and X-Ship to support smooth winding under load. With options from 5000 through to 25000, choosing the right model comes down to line capacity, retrieve speed and the balance of your rod and reel.
Choosing your Saragosa size
Start with the braid capacity your fishing requires, then compare reel weight and retrieve speed. A larger model is not automatically the better choice: extra capacity also comes with a heavier reel.
- 5000 XG and 6000 HG: The lighter options in this range. Compare these first when keeping overall outfit weight down matters more than the capacity of the larger models.
- 8000 HG: A step up in capacity and weight from the 5000 and 6000. Check the specification table against your braid and rod before choosing.
- 10000 PG and 14000 XG: Similar listed reel weights, but different capacities and retrieves. The 10000 PG is listed at 102cm per handle turn, versus 134cm for the 14000 XG, making retrieve speed an important part of this decision.
- 18000 HG, 20000 PG and 25000: The larger-capacity options. Compare your required braid length, reel weight and retrieve per turn rather than choosing on size number alone.
Gear ratio and line pickup
HG and XG identify high-speed and extra-high-speed models, while PG identifies a power-geared option. Always compare the actual retrieve per handle turn as well as the gear ratio: spool size affects how much line a reel picks up. The 25000 option is listed without an HG, XG or PG suffix, so use its specifications rather than assuming a speed category.
