The Shimano Slakka Sabiki Rod is one of those products that makes you wonder why nobody thought of it sooner.
Anyone who regularly uses Sabiki rigs knows the frustration. Hooks snagging on carpet, droppers wrapping around rod guides, tangled traces and wasted time when a school of bait suddenly appears beside the boat. Shimano developed the Slakka specifically to solve those problems and streamline the entire bait collection process.
Unlike a traditional rod, the Slakka features a guide-free hollow blank combined with a specially designed oversized trumpet tip. This allows the entire Sabiki rig, including multiple hooks, swivels and droppers, to be wound safely inside the rod blank with only the sinker remaining exposed. The result is a clean, tangle-free system that's always ready to deploy when bait schools show up.
At 7'5", the Slakka offers excellent reach for fishing around bait schools without becoming cumbersome on smaller boats. Shimano has also designed the rod with a large internal diameter capable of accommodating heavier Sabiki rigs with hooks up to 2/0 size, making it suitable for everything from yakkas and slimy mackerel through to larger bait gathering applications.
The two-piece construction adds another practical advantage. Once the day is done, the rod can be separated and flushed with fresh water while the rig remains stored inside, helping extend the life of your Sabiki rigs and reducing maintenance.
