Shimano Talica Single Speed Overhead Reel
The Shimano Talica single-speed range combines lever-drag control with a compact aluminium frame for offshore bait fishing and jigging. Sizes 8, 10, 12 and 16 give you a choice of line capacity and outfit weight without a high/low gear change.
When a fish changes direction or your bait needs resetting, line pickup matters. The 8 and 10 list 97cm per handle turn, while the 12 and 16 list 104cm. Choose around the line you need to carry and how the reel balances on your rod, not gear ratio alone.
Choose your Talica size
- Talica 8: At a listed 451g, this is the lightest option. It has 6.2:1 gearing, 97cm pickup and 9kg maximum drag, with mono capacity of 8kg/240m or braid capacity of 40lb/395yd. Choose it when that capacity meets your needs and keeping outfit weight down is a priority.
- Talica 10: Shares the 8's listed ratio, pickup and maximum drag, but increases capacity to 8kg/320m mono or 40lb/540yd braid. At 465g, it provides more line capacity for a small increase in reel weight.
- Talica 12: Steps up to a listed 18kg maximum drag, 5.7:1 gearing and 104cm pickup at 655g. Capacity is 9kg/320m mono or 50lb/700yd braid. Choose this when your outfit needs the larger capacity and drag specification, allowing for the extra weight over the 8 and 10.
- Talica 16: Shares the 12's listed gearing, pickup and 18kg maximum drag, while increasing capacity to 9kg/402m mono or 50lb/845yd braid. At 669g, it is the capacity-focused choice between these two sizes rather than a step up in listed maximum drag.
Single speed or two speed?
These models have one gear ratio each. Choose this range when you want a single-speed outfit and do not require a lower gear during a fight. If switching between faster line pickup and lower gearing is important to your fishing, consider the separate Talica two-speed range.
