Product Description
Shimano Twinpower SW Reel
The Shimano Twinpower SW is a saltwater spinning reel range for anglers building an inshore or offshore outfit around their rod, line and fishing technique. Infinity Drive supports winding under load, while X-Protect and a labyrinth sealing structure help resist water intrusion.
Six options provide different combinations of capacity, weight and retrieve. A reel for repeatedly casting plastics is a different choice from a larger jigging or surface-lure outfit. Start with the line you need to carry, then compare how much line comes back per handle turn and the weight you will fish throughout a session.
4000XG: the lightest listed option
The C 4000XG lists 350g weight, 6.2:1 gearing, 101cm pickup and 11kg drag. Capacities are PE1/490m, PE1.5/320m and PE2/240m. Consider it when this capacity suits your lighter saltwater outfit and you want less reel weight than the larger models.
5000HG versus 6000HG
These models share 5.7:1 gearing and 13kg listed drag. The useful differences are capacity, pickup and a small change in weight.
- C 5000HG: Listed at 415g with 97cm pickup and capacities of PE2/350m, PE3/240m and PE4/170m. Choose it when that capacity meets your needs without stepping up further in size.
- C 6000HG: Listed at 420g with 103cm pickup and capacities of PE2/440m, PE3/300m and PE4/210m. At PE3, it adds a listed 60m over the 5000HG for just 5g additional reel weight.
8000HG: a larger offshore option
The C 8000HG lists 615g weight, 5.6:1 gearing, 107cm pickup and 25kg drag. Capacities are PE3/410m, PE4/300m and PE5/250m. Consider it when your offshore lure, jig or bait setup requires that capacity, allowing for the substantial weight increase over the 6000HG.
10000PG: capacity with lower gearing
The C 10000PG lists 655g weight, 4.9:1 gearing, 102cm pickup and 25kg drag. Capacities are PE4/400m, PE5/300m and PE6/250m.
Compared at PE4, it carries a listed 400m versus the 8000HG's 300m. Consider it when the extra line length and lower-geared winding suit your jigging or bait-fishing approach. Despite the lower ratio, its listed pickup remains 102cm per turn.
14000XG: faster slack-line recovery
The C 14000XG lists 660g weight, 6.2:1 gearing, 134cm pickup and 25kg drag. Capacities are PE6/300m, PE8/200m and PE10/165m.
Choose it when your casting outfit calls for that capacity and rapid slack recovery. At PE6, it adds a listed 50m over the 10000PG, while recovering more line per turn. Faster pickup does not mean every lure must be worked faster; adjust handle turns and pauses to suit the presentation.
Compare pickup as well as gear ratio
The 4000XG and 14000XG both list 6.2:1 gearing, but pickup is 101cm and 134cm respectively. The 5000HG lists less pickup than the 4000XG despite its larger size. Use the actual retrieve figure alongside capacity and weight rather than choosing on model number alone.
Key features
- Infinity Drive: Designed to reduce winding resistance under load.
- X-Protect and labyrinth sealing: Help resist water intrusion during saltwater use. Water resistance is not a reason to submerge the reel.
- Heat Sink Drag: Listed for the 10000 and 14000 sizes to help manage drag heat. Do not assume this feature applies to every size.
- Metal handle and power knob: Provide a secure grip for winding.
Match the complete outfit
Check the full model code and match line capacity, reel weight and retrieve to your rod and fishing technique. PE capacities are expressed as PE number/metres, and actual capacity depends on line diameter. PE numbers are not a fixed breaking strain across every braid brand.
The listed drag figure is not a recommended working setting. Set fishing drag to suit your rod, line, knots and leader. If you're deciding between models, tell us your intended setup and we can help narrow the choice.
