Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

Complimentary Custom Millerods Rod Sleeve

The BarraVibe is a specifically designed barra spin rod that excels in fishing lipless crankbaits as well as small to medium soft swimbaits. Many a huge barra has been caught by casting a Trans Am or Slick Rig on a BarraVibe! Off course you can cast almost any type of lure, including topwater frogs and hard bodied lures.

The beauty of the spin rod for barra is obtaining easy, trouble free casting regardless of which direction the wind is blowing. You’ll always get good distance and no backlash.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement that runs from butt to tip – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity! And the BarraVibe is as powerful as it is sensitive.

The 2pc blank construction with removable handle means that transport and storage is extremely easy, and there is no interruption to the smooth fast action.

The Fuji TVS reel seat and carbon locking hood ensures the angler grip is both comfortable and secure, while the split grip handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod (not suitable for rod holders!). The hard rubber fighting rest grip allows for comfortable fishing during a hot bite or if a big fish is hooked deep and vertical.

The multi-guide train of Fuji Fazlite ceramics with a larger size tip-top gives excellent knot clearance for those heavy leaders, as well as super smooth line flow all in a lightweight guide set.

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. While this rod does have an oversize tip-top, all Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

The Millerods BassFreak has long been a favourite of keen river bass lure casters as a custom made rod, with anglers using them in rivers and creeks from Queensland to Victoria!

Originally inspired by tournament casting rods for the 7gm spin-cast Accuracy category, Ian saw first-hand how accurately such rods can hit a target with a flat, direct casting technique. With bass fishing being very close to his heart, he knew immediately that the important precision characteristics of these tournament rods needed to be implemented into a proper fishing rod!

After extended testing on his home bass waters, the first models of this rod were released as the popular ‘Bush Bass’r rod and this model subsequently became the lighter and more sensitive Control Freak BassFreak.

Designed in a no-nonsense 1pc format, this rod is light in the hand and super-sensitive for extra feed-back from the lure, and has great balance for long repetitive casting sessions.

The BassFreak M is ideal for all small bass lures, especially surface lures, soft plastics and hard-bodies. The medium action and specific tip power means the lure can be ‘punch cast’ flat and direct to a snag target, and even through a tiny gap in overhanging branches.

At only 6’0” length, the BassFreaK Medium is also short enough to make various creative casting strokes and get your lure ‘in, under, and around’ structure to deliver the lure to that all-important strike zone on the edge of the bank!

The multi-guide train of the latest Fuji Fazlite KR guides in sizes down to semi-micro runs true and easy, and further enhances the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

Ian’s trademark Control Freak style skeleton handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod. The Fuji SKSS seat is set atop a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

*Rod of choice for short range structure fishing with Cranka Crabs!

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

“Ian Miller has a happy place. It’s where the untouched, narrow river runs clear but wild, and full of gnarly fish habitat. He gets lost in his own world while drifting along this water, casting lures; days start with a sunrise, end with a sunset, and are simply separated by an evening fire, a cold beer and a silent review of ‘The Plan’. Because the only thing that really matters in this world is how to fool the next big bass…”

Big bass in tough water are a different beast. Always seeming to punch above their weight, they don’t know much give in the system to be able to tow you back deep in the snag, bury you hopelessly in the weeds, or just totally destroy you all ends up!

Yes, some may say, “better to have hooked and lost, than never to have hooked at all”. But sometimes, enough is enough… If this is how you feel – or you just hope not to this way – this rod will be of big interest!

But back to Ian’s ‘happy place’ – his local bass stream – which not for the first time has helped fine-tune a new fishing rod.

Where the bass are willing but never easy, and just get tougher and tougher as they grow bigger. And where the river often seems to be more strewn with snags than clean bottom This is no place to muck around when it comes to extracting bass – especially when they are so tricky that you literally have to give them all the advantages just to tempt a strike.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t finesse them – in fact sometimes that approach is often a requirement. And after being handed one-too-many lessons by these big bass, enough was enough, and the ‘XH’ was born!

The Millerods BassFreak already enjoys plenty of support from keen river bass anglers all along the eastern states – and now it’s time for the new BassFreaK XH to things them to the next level!

Exhibiting the same lightness in the hand, the same accuracy of casting into tight areas, the same ability to throw a wide variety of lure sizes and types, the same balance so helpful for long repetitive casting sessions. Indeed, the same no-nonsense design. But with a massively boosted fire-power for bass extraction!

The multi-guide train of the latest Fuji Fazlite KR guides run true and easy and further enhances the overall casting and retrieving smoothness of this rod performance.

Ian’s trademark Control Freak style skeleton handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod. The Fuji KSKSS reel seat has an important addition for the XH model; a carbon locking hood which gives a positive lock on the reel and most importantly helps with hand-leverage when hard-casting lures, and when hanging on tight to ‘persuade’ that giant fish!

So, get ready to place a topwater perfectly in the strike zone; run that Flashy through the darkest, gnarliest part of the snag; get down and dirty around the thickest weed beds!

Ian’s recommendations: Small-medium size spin reel -Up to 10lb braid -Up to 16lb leader – Very heavy drag setting and hang on! (“Don’t high-stick next to the canoe though!!”)

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.mind.

The latest Fuji Slim Ring SiC KR multi-guide train (8+1 with #7 smallest size)^

Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

This is a special Beast Buster model as it covers a range of fishing as both a medium-weight snapper rod, and light-medium power barra rod.

When previously custom made to order, these have been different rod designs, however this model combines both attributes into the one rod model!

As a snapper rod, the Beast Lt-Med LongCast excels in medium depths with popular jig-head sizes of ¼ through ¾oz rigged with up to 7” tails – which makes it a very versatile weapon. The 7’6” length makes longer casts and line/lure control nice and easy for the entire drift!

As a barra rod, the Beast will cast a wide variety of soft barra lures from soft vibes through Slick Rigs and small to medium jig-head rigged swimbaits. Once again, the length makes casting easy and lure control at a distance is greatly enhanced which is great for fishing weed edges at any depth.

For either snapper or barra, this rod is an absolute standout in a couple of departments.

The balance of the Beast LMLC is amazing – the tip end will actually float up for you, making retrieves effortless and effective! And the light rod weight combined with the balance ensures this will be one of the most sensitive rods you’ll ever use!

The 2pc blank construction with removable handle means that transport and storage is now extremely easy.

When it comes to rod holder use, Ian has specifically designed this handle to be rod holder ‘friendly’ with a slightly flared, extra firm Camoufish EVA providing a buffer against movement.

The Fuji TVS reel seat and carbon hood with locking ring ensures the angler grip is both comfortable and secure, skeleton handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod, while the fighting rest grip allows for comfortable fishing when a big fish is hooked deep and vertical.

The multi-guide train of Fuji ‘Slim Ring’ SiC ceramics gives excellent knot clearance in a lightweight guide set, fitted into the latest grey metal stainless steel frame finish.

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

Looking for the ideal blade rod to use in a variety of light and ultra-light applications? Here it is – the Millerods BLADEFREAK – another of Ian’s exclusive custom designs with a real technique-specific pedigree that delivers bona-fide high performance!

This rod is tuned for fishing small hard-bodied lures and has the perfect length, action and power for longer casting and superior line control if fishing deep or shallow flats using either braid with mono leader or FC lines*.

With a unique action this blank has the ideal amount of tip power to perfectly cast and – more importantly – perfectly retrieve small bladed lures in a variety of lift and hopping actions. The mid-section is softer than usual, which cushions any erratic movement from the fish, effectively protecting the often delicate hook-hold of a small treble.

This action and power also makes the BladeFreak ULS an ideal choice for fishing small hard-bodied lures when extra distance is required such as sigh-casting to ‘mudders’ on the shallow flats, or topwater lures especially stickbait styles for bream and whiting.

It is also an exceptional open-water rod for the lighter Cranka Crab lures.

For all these techniques, the ‘tip-up’ rod retrieve is required and the BladeFreaK ULS has been fine-tuned for a specific balance to ensure this is effortless and enhances sensitivity.

The KR guide train is a composite selection of Fuji’s titanium frames for corrosion resistance in semi-micro sizes. Ceramics are Fuji’s very latest ‘SlimRing’ SiC which gives smooth performance and protects ultra-light lines from wear and tear.

The BladeFreak ULS incorporates Ian’s ‘Control Freak’ style handles, comprising Fuji SKSS reel seat over a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

This is one of Millerods all-time popular and enduring bream rods for structure fishing, with the list of tournament wins by a ‘who’s who’ of competition bream fishing!

This rod is tuned for casting smaller lures – either soft plastic or hard-bodied – for big fish in gnarly structure situations. It’s the perfect length, action and power for combining casting accuracy with fish extraction on heavier than usual lines.

With ultra-light tip action, and a positive action that unleashes the ‘down’low’ fighting power, this blank is perfectly tuned to fish soft plastics applications including unweighted, hidden-weight and up to 1/4oz jighead rigged plastics. It’s also ideal for slow rolling or twitching surface and diving hard bodied lures amongst the structure.

The Brawler performs best with braid lines with mono leaders*, as well as ‘straight-through’ monofilament lines of either FC or nylon. The KR guide train is a composite selection of Fuji’s titanium frames for corrosion resistance in semi-micro sizes. Ceramics are Fuji’s very latest ‘SlimRing’ SiC guides finished with a titanium-Torzite deramic tip-top to maximise performance.

The Brawler incorporates Ian’s ‘Bream Buster’ style handles, comprising Fuji VSS reel seat with a custom carbon locking hood, and custom shaped x-firm blue Camoufish EVA, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap. This handle gives the angler a more positive grip for going hard on big fish!

This rod is fine-tuned for fishing small bibbed lures and has the perfect length, action and power for longer casting and superior line control when fishing shallow flats using either FC lines or braid with mono leader*.

With a unique action and 1pc blade this blank is smooth and easy-loading, with a soft tip that gives excellent feed-back from small bibbed lures and allows the fish to easily load the rod and become hooked. The flexible mid-section cushions any erratic movement from the fish, effectively protecting the often delicate hook-hold of a small treble.

When testing this rod in the early stages, Ian loaded the reel with 2lb FC monofilament and using lures with fine super-sharp trebles consecutively landed over 40 bream in a row before a fish was able to shake itself free of the lure!

This action and power also makes the CrankFreak ULS an ideal choice for fishing small hard-bodied surface lures with less drag such as pencil topwaters.

For the ultra-light cranking technique, the ‘tip-up’ rod retrieve is often required over shallow flats and the CrankFreaK ULS has amazing lightweight balance to ensure this is effortless and enhances sensitivity.

The KR guide train comprises Fuji’s titanium frames for corrosion resistance, sized in semi-micro rings to further reduce weight. Ceramics are Fuji’s very latest ‘SlimRing’ SiC which gives smooth performance and protects ultra-light lines from wear and tear.

The CrankFreak ULS incorporates Ian’s ‘Control Freak’ style handle, comprising Fuji SKSS reel seat over a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

*Millerods recommends using FC straight through for this rod model to maximise effectiveness. If using braid with mono leader, the use of the FG connecting knot will be the superior method. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

Pac Bay Minima 8+1 over-size guide train (smallest guide size #6)

Millerods Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

Ian Miller’s long history of freshwater lure casting also includes trout fishing. Decades ago, he was on the river banks fishing with the Aussie pioneers of fishing the famous ‘spotted dog’ floating minnows and witnessed and fished through the evolution of the ‘drift rig’ style fishing with weighted glo-bug and nymph flies. His deep understanding of these styles led him to custom build quite a few specialist rods for these applications, including the popular ‘Jigflicker’ for hand tied jigs and hard bodied lures, and ‘noodle rods’ for drift rigs.

But he had a personal favourite and only made one: A hybrid, a rod designed to fish all these styles and one that he’d never been able to perfect – until now!

Maybe it’s best if Ian explains this himself…

“I’ve always loved both approaches to my trout spinning in the rivers. The drift-rig is perhaps the ultimate and quite deadly on spawn run trout in the Snowys and I also had success in the Blue Mountains at various times of the year. But the famous ‘spotted dog’ lures are equally deadly, and a lot of fun to fish when trout are in an aggressive mood!

Eventually I made myself a custom rod from a heavily modified blank that did both jobs, and I was able to swap from one style to another quite effectively, but it was never ‘just right’. It’s played on my mind for years and in a recent moment of self-indulgence I decided to perfect it… and came up with the Drifter, over 8 feet of ultra-light spinning rod and an absolute pleasure to use for both techniques here in Australia!

The design is slightly shorter than a specialist noodle rod but with plenty of length to control a great drift and that classic soft noodle action that protects hook holds of small flies. But when I wanT to cast a hard bodied lure, I can do that too – It’s extra length and some power down low help enable long casts up, across or downstream. And it’s a fantastic rod for other trout fishing applications as well!”

While designed primarily for drift rigging and casting hard bodied lures, the Drifter 832 has far wider applications. Making long casts with a conventional spinner in the rivers is another, as is drifting baits. And in the lakes it’s ideal for bait fishing with or without a float, using natural or synthetic baits.

The graphite blank is ultra-light, super sensitive, with a super-soft tip action with all the forgiveness needed when using fly size hooks yet enough low-down power to easily cast minnows this is one unique rod! The custom handle is a blend of traditional cork for sensitivity and lightness with a low profile, ergonomic reel seat that’s comfortable in the hand. The graphite locking hood affords the best energy transfer during repetitive casting.

Ian selected Minima guides for this rod as they are the lightest guide available that also allows for a large diameter ring to be used to help avoid likelihood of ice building up during freezing temperatures. But the guide train is so light it doesn’t have a negative impact on the rod action and sensitivity.

Suitable for use with nylon lines, fluorocarbon lines and braid/leader combinations.

Millerods Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

Lake trout fishing in Australia is experiencing some fantastic times! A lot of this fishing is based on lure fishing, traditionally via trolling various trout lures but also by casting minnows, topwater and various diving hard bodied lures.

This type of fishing has been popular for many years but until now there hasn’t been a performance rod designed and dedicated to the application…

Enter the Millerods idler 762, combining the correct blank power, action, length and handle style all in the one rod design for the serious boating trout angler!

The blank has a little more power at the tip end which gives excellent trolling capability, and is softer through the middle section which is gentler on hook holds, something that’s regularly a problem with hooked trout. The combination of these attributes also makes for an excellent casting rod that delivers distance even with small light lures.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all-new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity!

The handle is also designed for adjustable rod holder use in mind, with the correct grip diameter to be locked down and long enough for holders or casting but not so long that the butt grip gets in the way when in the hand or a holder. The rear grip is hard wearing EVA in Millerods blue Camoufish colour. This is finished with the Millerods non-skid butt cap, which stops the rod from slipping around on the boat deck.

The Drifter reel seat is comfortable in the palm with a ‘soft touch’ barrel and the carbon tube foregrip/locking hood helps transfer the feel of the lure when the rod is hand-held.

Kigan guides with extra-hard Zirconia ceramics are very light on line wear. The generous number of 10 guides + tip-top guarantees super-smooth rod loading performance whether trolling, casting, retrieving or fish fighting!

As always, the exclusive custom Millerods anti-tangle hook keeper is included for easy stowing of the lure when not in use.

Suitable for use with both braid/leader combinations, and monofilament lines.

Lake trout fishing in Australia is experiencing some fantastic times, and a lot of this focus is on the highly productive technique of lure trolling.

This type of fishing has been popular for many years but until now there hasn’t been a performance rod designed and dedicated to the application…

Enter the Millerods idler 802UL, combining the correct blank power, action, length and handle style all in the one rod design for the serious boating trout angler!

The blank is light-powered with a sensitive tip that displays the lure’s working movement while the extra length gives a better spread of distance between lures.

The medium action is softer through the middle section which is gentler on hook holds, something that’s regularly a problem with hooked trout. There is reserve power in the lower 1/3 should it be needed.

The generous number of 10 guides + tip-top guarantees super-smooth performance and rod-loading when trolling and fish fighting!

As always, the exclusive custom Millerods anti-tangle hook keeper is included for easy stowing of the lure when not in use.

Suitable for use with both braid/leader combinations, and monofilament lines.

Millerods Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

The Drifter ‘Jungle’ is a rod based on one of Ian Miller’s long standing custom rod builds the ‘JungleFreak’ which has been used extensively in small freshwater streams from the Alps to Cape York. The quality pedigree of the ‘Jungle Freak’ has seen much success not only on trout but virtually every Aussie native fish that swims in skinny water including bass, jungle perch, sooty grunter, barramundi and mangrove Jack!

There are some important differences in the design of the Jungle 562 to other small spinning rods.

The ‘Jungle’ has more tip power than most short spin rods in this class. This is to enable a larger range of lures to be cast a good distance with such a short rod, and makes it easier to manipulate the lure during the retrieve.

The medium action aids in easy loading which not only assists with casting but is more suitable when treble-hooks are used.

The handle of the ‘Jungle’ is quite short which positions the reel close the butt end of the rod. This creates more effective tip length, allowing the rod to perform like a longer rod. It also means that the rod handle is more easily manoeuvred and won’t catch in long sleeves.

With that great feel that cork brings, the reel seat comes easily to the hand, reel seat body fitting ergonomically in the palm while the carbon locking hood helps transfer energy through the casting stroke.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity!

Minima guides have been selected for this rod as they are the lightest guide available so a double foot frame can be used a stripper guide and don’t have a ceramic ring that can be damaged when walking through the bush. Minima guides also allow for a very small size to be used on the tip section yet the ID of the ring is not too restrictive to line flow. And the guide train is so light it doesn’t have a negative impact on the rod balance and sensitivity.

The custom Millerods anti-tangle hook keeper finishes the guide train and allows for lures to be easily stowed when walking between casting positions.

Suitable for use with nylon lines, fluorocarbon lines and braid/leader combinations via the FG knot.

The Drifter ‘Pack’ L604 marks our production rod entry into the ‘travel’ arena. This short spin rod is based on one of Ian Miller’s long standing custom rod builds the ‘PackFreak’ which has been used extensively in small freshwater streams from the Alps to Cape York in Australia and international river fishing.

The ‘Pack’ has more power than most short travel spin rods in this length. This is to enable a larger range of lures to be cast a good distance with such a short rod, and makes it easier to manipulate the lure during the retrieve. It is also a capable fish fighting tool, ideal for harder fishing fish such as bass, sooties, and a very versatile traveller.

EGI Hook Keeper

Ian has been a keen EGI angler for many years. His local fishing for southern calamari squid is mostly oceanic land-based and this has certain requirements for EGI fishing. One of the most important aspects of this fishing is being able to cast a reasonable distance to reach weed beds and reef structure that attract baitfish and provide squid the opportunity to ambush their prey.

These ‘sweet spots’ of squid fishing can often be scattered over large areas and often distant to accessible and safe land-based fishing platforms, so these longer casts need to be easily and repeatedly accomplished. This rod is designed to deliver such casting ability!

This ‘power’ style EGI – D rod is also ideal for the more aggressive types of retrieves as the longer rod and stiffer tip action imparts more lift to the lure. The mid-section of the rod loads quite easily to help with landing hooked squid. And the extra length also allows for more line clearance around the shallow margins which is always better for avoiding a snagged lure.

The EGI – D is also designed for squid lures in the larger sizes up to 4.0. These lures not only cast further but also fish a lot deeper and the longer rod gives better line and lure control at depth. Due to this lure manipulation ability it is also a great rod for fishing deep from a boat.

Over many years of fishing, Ian has been able to continually refine this rod design and is finally happy that this rod takes his fishing to the next level!

This blank is a custom blend of high modulus graphite to suit this specific action and power while also maintaining sensitivity and balance. The 2pc centre-ferrule blank construction means that transport and storage is now extremely easy.

The multi-guide train is a blend of the latest Fuji titanium guide frames with SiC ceramic. The stripper guide is the RV shape, which funnels line to a KR guide train in sizes down to semi-micro size. Ten guides + tip-top further enhance the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

Ian has opted for the Fuji VSS seat for the comfortable grip it provides to active lure retrieves. This is matched with an ergonomically shaped x-firm EVA fore grip, and an up-locking rear grip that offers hand support right where it’s needed to make aggressive lure manipulation easier. Finished off with a longer butt grip to add easy power to the cast, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

EGI Hook Keeper

Millerods introduces our second EGI design into the production range!

This model is the Finesse rod, lighter and softer action than the longer ‘Power’ model. The EGI – F rod is designed to easily cast a smaller/lighter range of Egi lures, particularly in the 2.5 to 3.0 sizes.

This style EGI – F rod is light in the hand and well balanced so it is easy to manipulate for a wide range of lure retrieve styles.

The intermediate 7’6” length is versatile, and is equally at home as a land-based rod but not too long for boat fishing where it will deliver excellent casting distance. The specific Egi blank action incorporates a slightly stiffer tip action to increase casting distance and impart more lift to the lure when aggressive retrieves are employed. The mid-section of the rod still loads easily to help with landing hooked squid.

Over many years of fishing, Ian has been able to continually refine this rod design as his smaller lure rod and is finally happy that this rod takes this fishing to the next level!

The blank is a custom blend of high modulus graphite to suit this specific action and power for maximum sensitivity and balance. The 2pc centre-ferrule blank construction means that transport and storage is extremely easy.

The multi-guide train is a blend of the latest Fuji guide frames with SiC ‘slim ring’ ceramic. The stripper guide is the RV shape, which funnels line to a KR guide train in sizes down to semi-micro size. Eight guides + tip-top further enhance the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

Ian has opted for the Fuji VSS seat for the comfortable grip it provides to active lure retrieves. This is matched with a minimalist handle that is both ergonomic and lightweight. The custom shaped x-firm EVA fore grip and up-locking rear grip provides hand support right where it’s needed to make long sessions of casting and retrieve easier. The Millerods FinesseFreak has a long and proud history in our bass fishing arena as a custom made rod, with anglers taking out several Tournaments while using them!

The landscape of bass fishing in Australia is changing. As the influence of bass techniques from the USA bass fisheries takes hold, our own approach to fishing is changing.

Ian realised that the time was right to improve the design of the original FinesseFreak and by creating this production rod he was able to make the subtle modifications required to take this spin rod to the next level!

The FinesseFreak is ideal for all small bass lures, especially Beetle-spins, small spinnerbaits, top-water lures, soft plastics and hard-bodies. The length of the FinesseFreak has always been a strength of the design, allowing for long casts and excellent lure control which has made the rod a mainstay for lake fishing bass anglers.

Ian has now made this rod even longer, and with a slightly longer handle, the casting distance achievable has been increased as has the comfort of fishing while making repeated long casts – or employing other vertical methods such as drop shot, suspended soft plastics and even spoon fishing.

And it’s also a great rod for other open water lure casting situations including trout and flathead!

The 2pc blank construction with removable handle means that transport and storage is now extremely easy.

The multi-guide train of the latest Fuji Fazlite KR guides in sizes down to semi-micro runs true and easy, further enhancing the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

Looking for the ideal rod to use in a variety of light and ultra-light open water applications? Here it is – the Millerods FLATSFREAK – another of Ian Miller’s exclusive custom designs that’s now available as a production rod, delivering bona-fide high performance and finest quality!

This rod has origins in the NSW southern coastal lagoons. The margins of these lakes are often shallow flats, and the waters clear. The fish are wary.

A variety of lures were used for these fish including lightly weighted and unweighted soft plastics, as well as hard bodied lures both surface and diving so the rod design needed to have a versatile blank action.

Early on, Ian realised that these fish needed to be approached from a distance and his quest to cast longer began. Quickly, he found the shorter rods available just didn’t cut it… and thus his first ultra-finesse ‘long cast’ rods were designed!

When a lure is presented at a distance (whether shallow or deep), a longer rod also has superior line control and lure manipulation. So when the fish moved deep, sinking lures including blades were able to be used on the very same rod. Simply put, the rod excelled when fishing flats both shallow and deep, and with a variety of lure applications.

Since then, the fish haven’t changed. Lures have improved to become more effective and this FlatsFreak ULS rod model is the fine-tuned evolution of Ian’s early custom designs. It is lighter, has more advanced blank and handle designs which helps with balance and sensitivity, and improved guide train.

The KR multi-guide train consists of 10 guides plus tip-top in Fuji’s titanium frames to provide tangle-free operation, corrosion resistance and lightness. The ceramic is Fuji’s latest ‘Slim Ring’ SiC which further enhances smooth performance. The semi-micro sizes fish both FC lines and braid with mono leaders equally well.*

The FlatsFreaK ULS incorporates Ian’s ‘Control Freak’ style handles, which enhance sensitivity and provide comfortable casting over long sessions. Comprising Fuji SKSS reel seat over a blue carbon barrel, custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, and all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

The ‘Pitch’ rods, are two exciting and unique designs specifically tuned for shorter range casting for a variety of species and situations.

Ian explains the back-story of ‘Pitch’;

“These rods have origins in a custom rod project that a friend of mine required recently. This angler wanted to cast a specific lure to cod he was seeing on his Live Scope technology. Because of his particular scenario this needed to be a spin rod, and he wanted to be able to use lures a little smaller than most so the rod needed to be both light lure and Murray cod capable.

“This rod had to suit some pretty specific criteria. It was an interesting project so I made a prototype for myself and went and fished it. Pretty quickly I realised the rod design had a lot of merit and potential for many applications, not just targeting cod.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what species get targeted with the Pitch rods. As well as cod, there will be plenty of situations where barra could be the target, as could mulloway, snapper and others. I’m actually expecting some pretty wild stuff to be tackled with these!”

The blanks were designed from scratch for specific use on the Pitch, and have easy casting ability and plenty of power to turn strong fish away from cover if necessary.

The shorter length means the Pitch rods are ideal for fishing vertically in conjunction with electronics, or from kayaks where a long rod can be a hindrance and in any situation where a relatively light lure might need to be used to tempt big, strong fish.

The rod is very light, balanced and sensitive in the hand. It’s easy casting but turns into a real weapon once a fish is hooked.

The handle incorporates a full Fuji reel seat with carbon locking hood. The slightly longer fore-grip gives added purchase if necessary and is custom-shaped from x-firm EVA in blue Camoufish. A slightly longer butt grip from the same x-firm EVA is finished with the Millerods anti-skid butt cap.

The KR anti-tangle guide train has size #6 as the smallest ceramic so braid/leader clearance is fine by using a low profile connecting knot.^

The long-awaited arrival of the SwimSpin is finally here!

Designed for fishing popular medium sized soft swimbait lures, originally for flathead, this rod will also find favour among cod, mulloway and barra anglers. And with the easy-loading blank action it will also suit a wide variety of lures.

But if fishing soft baits for big flatties is your go, this is certainly your dream rod!

The blank is constructed from a custom blend of hi-modulus graphites designed specifically for this model. The result is a light weight, super-sensitive and well balanced rod that is a pleasure to fish for even long sessions with this size lure.

The longer 7’8” length means obtaining good casting distance is easy, which is a pre-requisite when fishing shallow flats.

Originally designed as a technique-specific rod for fishing small hard-bodied lures, the action of the TwitchFreak is ‘multi-loading’ which is ideal for this style of fishing. Initially presenting as a fast action, once pressure is applied the blank begins to flex more in the mid-section which helps protect the hook-holds of small trebles and vastly reduces instances of pulled hooks.

The tip action has just the perfect amount of power for a ‘twitching’ retrieve that is so effective on many fish!

The lower section of the blank has the power to pull harder on the fish if that becomes required.

With all these blank attributes working together during the cast, the TwitchFreak exhibits excellent casting distance that is comparable with much longer rods!

This is the Light model, designed for casting and twitching lures in the 2-10gm range including crankbaits, shallow and medium divers, and also surface lures. Many other techniques are also successfully fished on the TwitchFreak due to the user-friendly, smooth multi-loading action.

The TwitchFreak performs perfectly with either mono (FC) or braid lines with mono leaders^. This unique action is suitable for a multitude of applications, and ideal for the primary techniques of fishing lipless crankbaits (‘vibes) in both hard and soft styles, and medium sized soft plastic lures rigged on jigheads.

These two lure fishing techniques are extremely popular in both fresh and salt water, and now there is purpose-designed rod that fishes them with maximum effectiveness!

The VibeFreak is also ideal for a range of species including freshwater river and lake targets of bass and golden perch , and saltwater river and estuary species such as large flathead, mulloway, snapper and threadfin salmon.

The length of the VibeFreak adds a high degree of versatility, allowing for long casts in open waters such as lakes and estuaries, but also short enough in the tip length to fish many fish with an almost vertically under the front of the boat.

This tip length gives excellent lure control for all the popular retrieve methods of these typs of lures; ‘twitching’,’shaking, lifting and ’whipping’ are all easily made with the VibeFreak!

The 2pc blank construction with removable handle means that transport and storage is now extremely easy.

The multi-guide train of the latest Fuji Fazlite KR guides in sizes down to #5 runs true and easy, further enhancing the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

Ian’s trademark Control Freak style skeleton handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod. The Fuji KSKSS seat is set atop a blue carbon barrel, and the locking hood includes a small custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, which assists with the techniques commonly employed to fish vibes and soft plastics. All finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

The Millerods XFLC is an all-time favourite in the spinning rod line-up for both fresh and saltwater fishing, and has many dedicated followers.

In recent years the XFLC has really made a mark in the Tournament bass fishing arena as a soft plastic rod for suspended schooling fish which can be notoriously fickle.

The light tip action is perfect for this type of fishing as it is extremely sensitive which helps in keeping track of what the lure is doing, and also the fish can take the lure without feeling any undue pressure from the rod. Lower down there is plenty of power that be called upon if structure is nearby!

But the XFLC is not a one-trick pony! It’s also fantastic for any light soft plastic presentation for other species including bream, golden perch etc and is also excellent for fishing light blades to all these species as well. As such, the XFLC has become the favourite light line all-rounder for many anglers!

Ian has now made the blank for this rod into a 2pc format with detachable handle, and made the action smoother for when treble hooked lures are in the equation.

The multi-guide train of the latest Fuji Fazlite KR guides in sizes down to semi-micro runs true and easy, further enhancing the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

Ian’s trademark Control Freak style skeleton handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod. This rod is fitted with the Fuji KSKSS seat, which makes vertical fishing extremely comfortable but retains the sensitivity factor. This is set atop a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

The SwimFreak – AMBUSH is the ‘Unique Aussie’ in the Millerods swimbait rod range. Purpose-designed for accuracy casting using big-baits, it’s a real Australian ‘swimbait’ casting rod. Previously only available as a custom build, this model built a hardcore following and is now available as a production model!

River environments, tree-lines of impoundments and other snaggy areas sometimes require a rod that is a little shorter and more manoeuvrable than your standard length swimbait rod. The action is very user-friendly as it loads easily yet still has the power to cast larger lures. This allows you easily and accurately place the lure where you want to land it so that it can be retrieved into the strike zone.

At 7’0” overall length, the AMBUSH is incredibly well balanced, and amazingly sensitive! Super-light in the hand, but packing enough punch to target our biggest river and lake monsters on their terms, and come out on top!

These attributes also make the AMBUSH an ideal rod for the modern fishing approach of using a livescope to identify fish and then cast to them. This rod is light enough to hold in the hand for the entire session, and short enough to allow the lure to rest on the bow right under the rod tip in readiness for the cast.

Well suited to casting lures in the 60-180gm (2-5oz) bracket, this model has a nicely practical sweet spot of casting weights between 75-120gm, covering a wide variety of popular big-baits including offerings from international brands such as Megabass, Savage Gear, River to Sea, ABT, Gan Craft, 22nd Century, Huddleston, Spro, Deps as well as home-grown big fish catchers from Nutterjuck, Mudeye, JJs Plague, Bassman, JHM, Thirsty and others.

This truly unique design is ideal to have on the deck for when you get into the tight casting situations, or as a full-time primary rod for those fishing river environs where accuracy and landing your big-bait a little more softly is paramount.

The Ambush is the ideal big bait rod for both barra and cod in these situations.

When you know the fish is going to be laid up tight in an area where there’s not much room to move… it’s time for an AMBUSH!

Aussie lure anglers love the original Ambush – a unique design in the swimbait rod world. But ultimately it became clear that everything the original rod does so well, also can and needs to be done with a lighter lure. Enter the new ‘Light’ model!

With a large sweet spot for a range of smaller 1oz to 2oz+ lures for big fish such as barra and cod, you can cast your favourites at big fish with confidence, knowing that the 702L model has plenty of that Ambush firepower to take it to the fish!

With this lighter model we’re incorporating the G-Clutch handle for the ultimate in feedback and comfort! Based on an innovative new reel seat design that is totally minimalist – in fact the reel seat has uninterrupted blank exposure underneath – the sensitivity is off the charts! And there are absolutely no exposed locking hoods, nuts or threaded sections either. So it comes to hand so comfortably it’s actually difficult to feel where the handle finishes and the blank starts!

In the hand, this rod is light in weight with an amazing balance point, creating a rod that is a pleasure to use even for long sessions.

The Ambush 702L has a fast but smooth and progressive action, so when casting or fighting, the curve will continue to deepen as more pressure is applied. This makes it easy to cast and easier on hook holds.

At 7’0” length, the 702L is very accurate to cast around lake edges and structure, and will also get good distance and very importantly, is much easier to control the lure for a soft landing which is so important for fishing open water around the boat.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement that runs from butt to tip – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity!

The multi-guide train features 11 guides plus tip-top in the tried and trusted Alconite ceramic. This further enhances the smooth action, and provides exceptional line control.

Of course, our custom exclusive anti-tangle hook keeper will be there at hand to keep your lure at the ready, but otherwise virtually disappears.

The ergonomic G-Clutch handle also features extra-firm EVA to transfer energy and avoid hand fatigue, while the EVA butt cap allows the angler to leverage the rod against the body when fighting big fish. This is one heck of a finesse weapon for the swimbait anglers!

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

The latest unique Aussie rod design for barra and cod anglers, the BarraRip! This is designed to be an easy-casting, easy fighting, all-rounder for lake and larger river fishing.

The recommended 20-70g lure weight range covers a wide range of popular barra lures, from the ever-popular ‘Slick Rig’ to emerging greats like the Live Mullet, and up to larger swimbaits of 2oz+ weight.

The 7’3” length is ideal for both hitting the weed edges and also fishing with FFS; short enough to pitch close casts and long enough to reach fish that are still totally unaware of the boat’s presence.

The action and power of the BarraRip really sets it apart. The blank feels both limber and powerful at the same time, allowing for easy casting as the progressive action loads smoothly under the weight of the lure. And when fighting fish in open water a slightly gentler approach can be taken which often results in bringing barra to the net more easily and hook holds maintained.

But if you are in the timber or around other structure the low-down power of the BarraRip can quickly be called upon!

At 7’10” overall length, the BeastFreaK is a serious casting tool, well suited to river, open water and impoundment fishing with lures in the 1-5oz (30-150gm) bracket. This model has a beautifully wide sweet spot of casting weights between 1½ – 3½ oz (50-115gm), covering a wide variety of popular big-baits including offerings from international brands such as Megabass, Savage Gear, River to Sea, ABT, Gan Craft, 22nd Century, Huddleston, Spro, Deps as well as home-grown big fish catchers from Nutterjuck, Mudeye, JJs Plague, Bassman, JHM, Thirsty and others.

Designed with detachable handle for convenience, our 2pc ferrule construction is so light and unobtrusive most don’t even realise it is not a 1pc rod.

The highly regarded Millerods Control Freak handle maintains the sensitivity of this big rod, giving excellent feed-back so you know exactly what your lure is doing and also helps to maintain the lightweight integrity and amazing balance of this rod.

The BeastFreak is fitted with Miller’s ‘slick-flow’ 11+1 guide train of Alconite ceramic in Fuji’s latest ‘KW’ frames featuring the new corrosion resistant ‘CC’ finish. The multi-guide train also ensures smooth-as-silk operation during all phases of casting, retrieving and fish-fighting!

The BeastFreak is also fitted with our exclusive Heavy Duty Hook Keeper specifically designed by Miller, which can easily hold several ounces of lure, is also 100% tangle free, and positioned for easy access.

This is a weapon of long-range presentation! You will be surprised at easily this rods casts, assisting the angler over even the longest session of throwing big, heavy lures. The med-fast, multi-loading blank action helps keep this big stick user-friendly while plenty of low-down power not only helps transfer energy to cast the big lures, it supplies ready stopping power for big fish like metre-plus lake, estuary and river monsters…

TAME THE BEAST!

The BeastFreak is originally a rod that Ian Miller designed in collaboration with Carl Jocumsen for the US bass market. The ‘Beast’ is not only powerful enough to cast these large lures but is beautifully balanced and very sensitive, setting itself apart from many other similar rods in that market. Primarily, the techniques used with this rod are swimbaits and glidebaits for largemouth bass which have become the preferred methods to target trophy largemouth bass across the country.

As the swimbait movement began to take hold in Australia, Miller quickly realised that the BeastFreak is also perfect for targeting our own species with the same big lures. In a few short months of 2016 the reputation of the BeastFreak spread and rods began to find their way into the hands of anglers using these new techniques. Impressive captures of Murray cod quickly ensued, followed by barramundi, mulloway and now flathead – all our large predatory fish were falling victim to the US BeastFreaK.

The most popular size range of these lures is in the 5-8”/120-200mm bracket and typically weigh 1 ½ – 3oz/55-90gm, in fact there is probably not a modern lure company that does not boast a range of lures in this class. These are the lures sizes that the ‘Beast’ is perfect for and provides the ideal stepping stone between more traditional sized Aussie lures and the really huge lures that are in a heavier bracket of their own.

To be perfect for Australia, Miller determined that the rod design needed some slight tweaking. The same perfect amount of power and action were maintained but the blank redesigned into a 2pc format with detachable handle for easier transporting, stowage and management. The guide train was changed to larger ID Fuji ceramics so our larger leaders can easily pass through, and double foot guide frames make the rods more robust. And so entered the ‘Beast’!

If you are looking to step up to the next level from smaller lures to swimbaits, wakebaits, larger spinnerbaits and topwater lures, this really is the perfect tool for the job.

The return of the Boof Stick! Ian’s all-rounder ‘power’ barra rod is back and in the production range by popular demand.

Originally designed as an impoundment barramundi rod for big fish amongst the timber, it’s equally as effective as a more powerful estuary and river lure rod.

Designed to be versatile, the Boof Stick has an easy casting tip action and a smooth transition into the powerful bottom half of the blank. For a powerful rod, the Boof Stick has amazing balance and is light in the hand for ‘tip-up’ retrieves such as those involving hopping or slow rolling soft plastics, and working a top-water lure. And of course it’s just at home twitching a hard body.

And for those trolling in tiger country, this is the rod for you! The perfect combination of length, tip sensitivity and fish fighting power is all in the Boof Stick!

The tip is so sensitive you simply won’t miss a bite and you’ll be able to tell exactly what is going on with the lure during the entire retrieve.

The 1pc blank design is no-nonsense while the handle incorporates Ian’s latest ergonomically styled casting handles, comprising Fuji ECS reel seat with a custom carbon locking hood, and custom shaped x-firm blue Camoufish EVA, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap. This handle gives the angler a comfortable and positive grip for the rigours of barra lure casting!

This rod performs with braid lines with mono leaders*, as well as ‘straight-through’ monofilament lines of either FC or nylon. The KW guide train uses Fuji’s latest ‘Slim Ring’ SiC ceramic with stainless steel frames for corrosion resistance.

Ian’s own custom designed and exclusive anti-tangle hook keeper is positioned exactly where you need to keep your lure secured between stops.

*Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. While the Salty Barra is fitted with an oversized tip-top to assist smooth line flow on and off the rod, all of Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

The CodFreaK is our ‘classic’ river lure casting rod. Purpose-designed for accurately casting more conventional bladed lures such as spinnerbaits and Mumblers, as well as larger traditional hard-bodied lures for both diving and surface presentations.

Of course, the CodFreak will also love casting the latest swimbaits and topwater lures when you’re fishing in tight river conditions!

The medium taper of this blank design makes it ideal for all lure types whether rigged with treble or single hooks. The tip power is strong enough to drive home a ‘single’ while the softer mid-section is kind to the hook-hold of a treble.

Whichever lure you choose, the action of the CodFreak blank is super-easy to cast with and the handle is designed for a comfortable double-handed style of casting.

When it comes to lure retrieving, the CodFreak has excellent balance that has no tip-heaviness whatsoever. So for ‘tip-up’ retrieves there is no effort required, and the sensitivity of the blank allows you to feel that your lure is working properly at all times. The Control Freak skeleton handle enhances this sensitivity with every vibration of feedback coming straight into the hands.

The 10+1 multi-guide train ensures that all operations involving line movement – casting, retrieving and fighting – are as smooth as possible.

A lot of anglers have been waiting for the perfect river cod rod – and the CodFreak is now here!

This is the Aussie version of our successful US bass model. Designed primarily for throwing crankbaits in deep water, it’s about as easy casting and user-friendly as can be.

The heart and soul of this rod is the blank. And there’s a lot to the design of this one when it comes to action, length, power, balance and feel.

Perhaps the most important aspect of this blank design lies in the construction. There is a very fine line between able to achieve casting distance and retrieve power, but still load easily on hook-set. This blank has the desirable loading ‘feel’ of fibreglass to protect the hook-hold, yet is high performance graphite which helps achieve easy casting distance, and remains light in the hand.

The super-smooth action is not only great for launching crankbaits with less fouled lures, it’s also invaluable for protecting the hook-holds as it absorbs the lunges of a big fighting bass.

The longer 7’10” length is also crucial for easily obtaining this casting distance. And when the lure needs to get a little deeper, by employing the ‘kneel & reel’ technique and submerging the tip end well down into the water, your crank will dive even further.

The power of the CrankFreak is ideal for popular crankbaits used in impoundment Australian bass fishing. Not only is there the right amount of grunt to get casting distance, but there is also enough power to perfectly control the load created by a big-bibbed crankbait without folding away – and then still some to get the hooks in.

The rod is light in the hand, yet still balanced to be slightly tip-down when retrieving which is the natural angle for deep cranking. But it’s still light enough for easy ‘tip-up’ retrieves should they be required.

And when it comes to the handle design, Ian’s trademark Control Freak skeleton handle is minimal and allows for maximum feedback from the lure. And, the parts are all Fuji, of course.

Importantly the extra-long, custom-shaped EVA rear grip can be comfortably tucked under the arm for lure-retrieving which keeps a long day of retrieving big cranks far less tiring, and when it comes to the hookset it’s a simple matter of using that long butt as leverage to get the hooks in: keep the butt cap against the body and simply sweep the rod tip away from the fish – you’re on! Then the fish can be fought with the rod tucked under the arm, or however you are comfortable.

The multi-guide train consists of an amazing 13+1 (tip-top) of Fuji Fazlite KR guides! These run super true and easy, and further enhance the overall casting and retrieving smoothness of the CrankFreak AU performance.

Big suspended bass, big water… you’re covered!

The Millerods DreamFreaK was Australia’s first purpose-designed, ‘big-bait’ casting rod released in 2016. Initially available only as a custom rod build, it has carved a niche in the Aussie big bait scene as a high performance yet no-nonsense weapon that has accounted for scores of huge Murray cod.

Now available as an entirely new production rod model, Ian has taken all the attributes of the original rod and redesigned the DreamFreak into a big-bait rod for everyone!

At 7’10” overall length, the DreamFreaK 710XH is a serious casting tool, well suited to open water and impoundment fishing with lures in the 3-8oz (85-225gm) bracket. This model has a huge sweet spot of casting weights between 3.5-6oz (100-170gm), covering a wide variety of popular 8-12” big-baits including offerings from international brands such as Livingston, Westin, Megabass, Savage Gear, River to Sea, ABT, Gan Craft, 22nd Century, Huddleston, Spro, Deps as well as home-grown big fish catchers from Nutterjuck, Mudeye, Bassman and others.

Designed with detachable handle for convenience, our 2pc ferrule construction is so light and unobtrusive most don’t even realise this is not a 1pc rod.

The highly regarded Millerods Control Freak handle maintains the sensitivity of this big rod, giving excellent feed-back so you know exactly what your lure is doing and also helps to maintain the lightweight integrity of this rod.

The DreamFreaK has amazing balance rarely found in other ‘swimbait’ rods, which further enhances sensitivity and helps reduce fatigue when casting big lures.

Fitted with our ‘slick-flow’ 11+1 guide train of Fuji Titanium-SiC ‘K’ guides, this is a weapon of long-range presentation. You will be surprised at easily this rods casts, assisting the angler over even the longest session of throwing big, heavy lures.

Custom Millerods anti-tangle Hook Keeper

It’s no secret that Ian Miller loves his bass fishing. It’s where his love of lure fishing was born over five decades ago. And it was back in the early days, back in a time when the only bass gear to use was baitcast tackle…

Small, light lures and baitcast reels were never a truly comfortable partnership in the beginning. The only reel capable of doing an acceptable job – and this was after some custom tuning – was the original ABU Ambassador 1500C.

And rods to suit, well, they simply just weren’t available at all!

This set Ian on a pursuit for his perfect bass rod. It was a journey that spanned more than a decade, with incremental improvements made to his next custom creation once new blanks and technology periodically became available.

Eventually, Ian settled on a lightweight blank of a certain length that allowed light lures to be cast accurately to a fishable distance, which he was able to combine with a reasonable amount of fish-fighting ability. This ‘SweetWater’ baitcast rod first became available as a custom build some 20-odd years ago.

Then along came improved spin tackle and what were known as ‘ultra-light baitcast rods’ took a backseat until the relatively recent development of ‘Baitcast Finesse Tackle’. New, vastly improved reels made casting tiny lures easy and ‘BFS’ (ultra-light) rods were back on the agenda. Ian knew exactly where to find his inspiration for this model!

The Millerods BFS Bass has its roots in decades of Aussie bass fishing, and the latest technologies in rod blanks and components bring this to the next level!

Exhibiting extreme lightness in the hand and incredible sensitivity and balance, the BFS Bass has the perfect rod length for accuracy of casting into tight areas, but also has some low-down power for bass extraction!

The blank action is smooth loading which is imperative when casting ultra-light lures. It opens the window a little wider for when the lure can be released to accurately reach the target.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all-new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity!

The multi-guide train is a composition of Kigan ultra-light guide frames that are ideal for BFS. The generous quantity of 11 guides + tip-top guarantee line runs true and easy and further enhances the overall casting and retrieving smoothness of this rod performance.

The exclusive, custom Millerods anti-tangle hook keeper keeps the lure stowed at the ready in-between casts.

The Millerods ‘Drifter’ style handle incorporates a cork rear grip, carbon locking fore-grip and alloy seat fittings. The BFS Bass utilises a real timber barrel*, treated to be hard wearing but still smooth in the palm. This is all finished with the anti-skid Millerods butt cap.

This rod may be based on bass fishing but is equally suited to any BFS application where a rod of this length is suitable and some fish fighting authority is needed!

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

Millerods Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

The Drifter ‘Pocket’ is a rod based on one of Ian Miller’s favourite personal custom rod builds. This medium weight bass rod is used with medium-large sized Aussie bass lures and designed around delivering deadly casting accuracy!

Hence the rod name ‘Pocket’. This is a term Ian uses to describe small areas to target in order to trigger bass into attack mode. If you can’t get the lure into that target ‘pocket’ it’s unlikely you’ll get that strike.

Plenty of development time was given to fine-tuning this rod, which is probably best described by Ian himself;

“A few seasons ago I started to get more interested in bigger lures for my bass fishing, broadening my horizons and experimenting with approaches to hunt bigger fish.

I found some lures that were working well but I wasn’t happy with my tackle. These lures were a little heavier so it’s best to throw them on baitcast tackle for maximum control and accuracy. And I needed accuracy! It’s critical to land the lure in the exact spot to trigger the best attack response which will usually trick a big fish and get a decent hookset…

I knew I had such a rod somewhere that I’d already developed for my own personal fishing back in the day for spinnerbaits in tight water, so I unpacked my archive rods and there it was! I rigged it up, took it fishing and was overwhelmed with how well it went, the foundations of an excellent rod were there.

I fished that season out with the OG to pinpoint what might need improving, and then built myself a modern prototype. The next season I fished the whole season with that new prototype alongside a production sample to be doubly sure it was as good as can be. Now this season we’re good to go!”

The ‘Pocket 581’ is quite short at 5’8” and this is important to getting good manoeuvrability of the rod when fishing under, around, and in structure to get the lure into the target zone.

The tip has a measured amount of flex to allow for easy loading during the cast, providing a nice window of release to steer the lure onto the target.

The mid-section power is reached quickly and smoothly which assists in hooksets and also steering big fish away from cover immediately after the strike.

The handle of the ‘Pocket’ is quite short which positions the reel close the butt end of the rod, and apart from the easy manoeuvrability it also means that the rod handle won’t catch in long sleeves. Even so, the balance and sensitivity of this rod is simply amazing!

With that great feel that cork brings, the reel seat comes easily to the hand. The reel seat body fitting ergonomically in the palm, the smooth alloy trigger is comfortable during the casting stroke while the carbon locking hood gives a positive hold on the reel foot.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity!

Minima guides have been selected for this rod as they are the lightest guide available. A combination of double foot and single foot frames in a generous amount of 10 guides plus tip-top deliver super-smooth line flow both ways and give nice direct feedback yet are so light there is no negative impact on the rod balance and sensitivity. Minima guides also allow for a very small size to be used on the tip section yet the ID of the ring is not too restrictive to connecting knots.

The custom Millerods anti-tangle hook keeper finishes the guide train and allows for lures to be easily and safely stowed between casts.

Suitable for use with nylon lines, fluorocarbon lines and braid/leader combinations via the FG knot.

(Well used prototype in images, production stock may vary slightly in cosmetic).

The Jack – X casting rod is the latest addition to the Millerods production line up! Originally one of Ian’s custom designs for Jack and barra fishing, this rod fills an important niche for hunting powerful fish by casting smaller lures in our rivers and estuaries.

There are many situations that require a slightly smaller lure to tempt fish holding tight to structure and that is the exact design brief of the Jack – X. Accuracy and easy casting are the main attributes of the Jack – X and as such the original custom rods became favourites of professional fishing guides who guided Ian for barra fishing and were impressed with the casting performance.

The Jack – X is also easy to use for long sessions. “Absolutely effortless!” is how one guide described it. And there is still plenty of fish fighting power, as is needed to land many of the target species hunted with this rod.

It’s not just a rod for the tropical north or ‘Jack waters, the Jack – X excels in any environment that requires an accurate cast with a lighter lure to extract powerful fish. Tighter waters in the Murray-Darling Basin for yellowbelly or cod are also ideal applications for this rod.

And it’s not just a rod for hard bodied lures; topwater, spinnerbait, small swimbaits are all easy casting fodder for the Jack-X.

Made with the new ‘Armour 40-5’ blank construction, this is the ultimate in blank reinforcement – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity and balance!

The multi-guide train comprises 9+1 Fuji Fazlite guides for smooth line flow whether casting, retrieving or fighting fish. And of course the exclusive Millerods anti-tangle hook keeper is positioned perfectly; not in the way but within handy reach to securely stow your lure in between casts.

The Jack – X incorporates Ian’s ‘Control Freak’ style handle for the ultimate in feed-back, comprising Fuji SKTS reel seat over a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap. This handle is SHORT, so you can manoeuvre the rod for underhand, backhand, or other creative casts to drop your lure right on target!

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

If you could only have a single medium weight baitcast rod for all your needs, it would have to be the ‘one’, right? Enter the ONEfreaK! – Why is it the ONE and only?

This rod casts so easily, and is so well suited to a wide range of lure types in the most popular lure weights, it simply covers the most bases!

The ONEfreaK is so well balanced the tip actually floats and rises to get ready for the retrieve. This makes the rod ideal for any ‘tip-up’ retrieve including hopping, slow rolling and surface presentations. But it doesn’t rule out ‘tip-neutral’ or ‘tip-down’ retrieves, it simply makes the rod easier to use, and more sensitive overall!

In fact, Ian designed the action of this rod primarily for twitching hard bodied lures, so the tip has a little bit of power to move the lure, but the mid section folds right away to absorb the shockwaves produced by a fighting, jumping fish. This protects the shallower hook-holds of trebles.

The end result is a mid-length, mid-weight baitcast rod that is not only a pleasure to use, but also very effective with all lure types!

Making this rod even smoother is the generous 10+1 guide train. This ensures that all line movement – casting, retrieving and fighting – has reduced friction and is as even as possible. The KW guide train uses Fuji’s latest ‘Slim Ring’ SiC ceramic so the rod performs with braid lines with mono leaders*, as well as ‘straight-through’ monofilament lines of either FC or nylon.

Ian’s own custom designed and exclusive anti-tangle hook keeper is positioned exactly where you need and will keep any type of lure secured between stops.

The lightweight blank sensitivity allows you to feel that your lure is working properly at all times, and the Control Freak skeleton handle enhances this sensitivity with every vibration of feedback coming straight into the hands.

Designed due to popular demand!

Since its release in 2020, the ONEfreaK has a developed a loyal following in the lure casting world. And now that our impoundments are back on line, there are more and more situations opening up for a rod in this unique style, but with more capability. Enter the ONEfreak POWER version!

Same easy lure casting ability, same length, same easy-loading action that is designed to help protect hook holds in angry fish. But more low-down power for dealing with big fish amongst the timber!

The ONEfreaK POWER model retains that excellent balance to keep it easy to fish with, and the multi-loading action keeps it user-friendly for lure casting.

One of the primary applications of this design is for twitching hard bodied lures, so the tip has a little bit of power to move the lure, but the mid-section folds right away to absorb the shockwaves produced by a fighting, jumping fish. This protects the shallower hook-holds of trebles.

The end result is a mid-length, mid-weight baitcast rod that is not only a pleasure to use, but also very effective with all lure types – and now it is even more robust than the original!

Ian Miller’s love of freshwater river lure casting – particularly for wild bass in the eastern streams – shows no sign of slowing and the river has again provided inspiration for this exciting new rod design!

The BladeFreak RB is ideal for soft plastics and designed primarily with spinnerbaits in mind. Previously as a custom made to order by Ian, a similar model was the preferred option for the spinnerbait specialist when casting for wild bass in our rivers. This updated production model has undergone two seasons of development for fine tuning, and the spinnerbait approach to wild bass fishing is once again gaining popularity.

With a ‘medium’ power rating, the classic 1/2oz spinnerbait is perfect on this rod which features a fairly fast action. An easy-casting tip with a fairly powerful lower half that loads in a positive manner provides perfect timing for setting the ‘J’ hook used in such lures.

Perfectly balanced in the hand and with a length of 6’6”, the BladeFreak RB is ideal for both accuracy and slightly longer range river casting. The blank is super sensitive, and together with the skeleton reel seat you can feel whether or not the spinnerbait blades are working properly. The x-firm custom shaped blue Camoufish EVA makes for easy-going, comfortable casting. And while light in the hand, the BladeFreak RB has plenty of authority for landing big bass amongst the riverbank cover!

Casting, retrieving and fighting are all as smooth as possible because the line slides so evenly over the 11+1 multi-guide train.

^While this guide train has slightly larger guides for easier knot clearance of heavy leaders, Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

Ian Miller’s love of freshwater river lure casting – particularly for wild bass in the eastern streams – shows no sign of slowing and the river has again provided inspiration for this exciting new rod design!

The SwimFreak RB is designed for hard bodied lures, in particular smaller glidebaits and swimbaits. Ian has extensive experience with larger baits for American bass, and this led to an infatuation with using small ‘glides’ for targeting river Australian bass a couple of seasons ago. Realising that in the right place and time a glidebait of 100mm or so can fool big bass that are otherwise hard to catch, Ian spent large chunks of the ensuing bass seasons developing this craft and designing the perfect rod to use for it.

Working the right line of retrieve is important with swimbaits, and the SwimFreaK RB easily casts long enough for our river waterways. The 6’6” length is also easy to handle in the closer proximities of foliage in the riverbank situation, and will cast accurately for when targeting isolated structure. The tip power is a little stiffer for casting slightly heavier lures, yet the blank power is slightly softer in the middle section to protect hook holds of the trebles. Superbly balanced, this rod is an absolute pleasure to fish and will maximise the effectiveness of this cutting edge lure application.

The blank is super sensitive, and together with the skeleton reel seat you can feel that your swimbait or glide is swimming properly. The x-firm custom shaped blue Camoufish EVA makes for easy-going, comfortable casting. And while light in the hand, the SwimFreak RB has plenty of authority for landing big bass from the riverside cover!

While primarily designed for glide and swimbaits, the SwimFreaK RB is also ideal for targeting river fish on any hard bodied lure – including topwater – within the recommended weight range.

Casting, retrieving and fighting are all as smooth as possible because the line moves so evenly over the 11+1 multi-guide train. The guide train is relatively small which is best for fishing FC lines straight through which is a popular option for swimbaits, but still easily allows the use of braid/leader combinations.

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.

The Legendary Millerods Salty Barra is now available in the production line-up!

This is one of Millerods all-time popular and enduring barra rods and we’ve upgraded and updated it for this release!

Fine-tuned for casting your favourite barra lures – either soft plastic or hard-bodied – for fish in river situations, it’s the perfect length, action and power for combining casting accuracy with fish extraction on tidal water.

This latest blank is designed with a detachable handle to make it user-friendly for the travelling angler while the 1pc ‘blade’ gives maximum performance. In fact the balance and sensitivity of this new Salty Barra has to be felt to be believed!

With an easy casting tip action, and a positive blank taper that unleashes the ‘down-low’ fighting power, the ‘Salty’ is well known to be user-friendly for casting and retrieving, while also providing the angler good power for fish fighting. Basically, it’s your perfect barra river rod!

The Salty Barra incorporates Ian’s latest ergonomically styled casting handles, comprising Fuji ECS reel seat with a custom carbon locking hood, and custom shaped x-firm blue Camoufish EVA, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap. This handle gives the angler a comfortable and positive grip for the rigours of barra lure casting!

Fine-tuned for longer casting of your favourite barra lures – either soft plastic or hard-bodied – for both river and impoundment situations, it’s a great length, action and power for combining casting accuracy with casting distance, and fish extraction in tough structure.

The Salty LC is also an excellent rod for trolling, having the length to suit the modern hand-held trolling methods and a sensitive tip action that allows easy monitoring of the lure action.

This latest blank is designed with a detachable handle to make it user-friendly for the travelling angler while the 1pc ‘blade’ gives maximum performance.

The balance of this new Salty Long Cast is incredible! This makes it perfect for any finesse presentations such as hopping and slow-rolling soft swimbaits, as the tip actually ‘floats’ upwards in the hand, meaning the rod actually positions itself ready for ‘tip-up’ retrieves.

The tip is so sensitive, you simply won’t miss a bite and you’ll be able to tell exactly what is going on with the lure during the entire retrieve. And it’s also ideal for surface presentations and of course twitching bibbed lures.

With an easy casting tip action, and a positive blank taper that unleashes the ‘down-low’ fighting power, the ‘Salty LC’ has a great reputation for many saltwater and freshwater situations.

This rod performs with braid lines with mono leaders*, as well as ‘straight-through’ monofilament lines of either FC or nylon. The KW guide train uses Fuji’s latest ‘Slim Ring’ SiC ceramic with stainless steel frames for corrosion resistance. The tip-top is a larger size to assist with leader knots entering the rod during the retrieve.

Ian’s own custom designed and exclusive anti-tangle hook keeper is positioned exactly where you need to keep your lure secured between stops.

The Salty Barra incorporates Ian’s latest ergonomically styled casting handles, comprising Fuji ECS reel seat with a custom carbon locking hood that totally eliminates any exposed threads, and custom shaped x-firm blue Camoufish EVA, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap. This handle gives the angler a comfortable and positive grip for the rigours of barra lure casting!

The SwimFreaK POWER is the latest addition to the comprehensive range of Ian’s Aussie designed swimbait rod line-up. In the context of the Millerods swimbait rod range, this rod sits just below the BeastFreak in terms of casting weight power.

Primarily designed to fill the void for a swimbait rod that casts a light lure easily, yet still has tons of fish-fighting power, the SwimFreaK POWER just does that, being able to comfortably cast small swimbaits even under 1 ounce yet be able to effectively fish structure-dwelling heavyweights such as Murray cod and barramundi.

Here are Ian’s own thoughts on this new design;

“The original US SwimFreak model is a great rod with an action that’s smooth as silk, but as it’s a bass rod, it just doesn’t have the power we need for our bigger predators. I realised that I needed to design a better rod for casting this smaller type of lure but still retain stopping power for big fish. The SwimFreak POWER is that rod! It’s a real pleasure to use this rod and I always have it on the deck ready to go with that smaller swimbait for when a more finesse presentation is needed… it’s the perfect rod for both cod and barra when using the popular small soft swimbaits!”

Light in weight and evenly balanced, this sensitive rod gives amazing feed-back and is perfect for any ‘tip-up’ lure retrieving technique as very little effort is required to fish for a long session. This makes it ideal for all the popular ‘slow-rolling’ retrieves that are so effective with small soft baits. And the 2pc design with detachable handle makes transport and storage a breeze.

The multi-guide train of Fuji ‘KW’ Fazlite guides runs true and easy, further enhancing the overall smoothness of this rod performance and is suitable for both braid/leader or FC lines fished ‘straight through’.^

Ian’s trademark Control Freak style skeleton handle is super comfortable and also enhances the amazing sensitivity of this rod. The Fuji SKTS seat is set atop a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

NEW G-Clutch handle system

Kigan titanium frame Zirconia ceramic multi-guide train (12+1 with #6 smallest size)^

Custom anti-tangle Hook Keeper

Complimentary Custom Millerods Rod Sleeve

This is a finesse swimbait rod that suits open water applications for species in the salt, and hard body fishing for cod in the fresh.

The rod introduces Aussie anglers to the G-Clutch handle! Based on an innovative new reel seat design that is totally minimalist – in fact the reel seat has uninterrupted blank exposure underneath – which when coupled with this light weight blank means that sensitivity is off the charts! And there are absolutely no exposed locking hoods, nuts or threaded sections either. So it comes to hand so comfortably it’s actually difficult to feel where the handle finishes and the blank starts!

In the hand, this rod is light in weight with a super-easy casting action and an amazing balance point – this all creates a rod that is a pleasure to use with the big lures, even for long sessions.

This AU model has all the features we need in an Aussie swimbait rod; detachable handle makes for easy storing and transport, while the larger guide train comprises 2 foot titanium frames. These are more robust, large enough for easy leader knot passage, super light in weight and corrosion proof!

While it casts up to 70gm lures easily, this is not an overly powerful rod which makes it ideal for big fish in open water and we’ve done a lot of testing and development in the estuaries and inshore waters of the NSW coast. ‘Croc’ sized flatties and mulloway are the perfect target for the SwimFreak AU, and it’s ideal for all medium sized swimbaits, whether they are soft baits, hard baits, or deep sinking. (Also ideal for topwater too…)

In the freshwater, this rod has also been used for great success targeting Murray cod with smaller soft swimbaits, smaller glides and bibbed hard-bodied lures – and already racked up a tournament win! And it’s also a truly easy rod for casting spinnerbaits.

At 7’8” length, the SwimFreaK AU is enough rod to produce the long casts needed in open water, but also short enough to handle easier in small craft.

The multi-guide train features 12 guides plus tip-top. This further enhances the smooth action, easy casting of this custom blank which is a blend of graphites specifically selected to maximise performance across the applications Ian has designed this rod for.

The ergonomic G-Clutch handle also features extra-firm EVA to transfer energy and avoid hand fatigue, while the rounded EVA butt cap allows the angler to leverage the rod agains the body when fighting big fish. This is one heck of a weapon for the swimbait anglers!

Ian Miller and his brand ‘Millerods’ have been leading the rod designing scene in Australia for decades. Ian’s custom rods have pride of place in the collections of many anglers around the globe including keen anglers seeking every possible advantage they can get over both the fish and other anglers – as well as some of the highest profile fishing personalities in the country!

Ian’s designs are so sought after that his personally handcrafted rods are incredibly hard to get, with keen anglers waiting months and even years to have their dream fishing rods created.

Now, Millerods introduces the ‘Production Rod’ range, comprising some of Ian’s most popular designs in a fully imported fishing rod. Same blank designs, same components, same high performance and same distinctive appearance – all wrapped up in a super-high quality build!

The Production Rod range includes some all-time best sellers, and some brand new models that Ian has specifically designed for their first release in this range of fully imported rods.

All-new blank actions and powers for highest performance in new blends of graphite to minimise weight yet maintain the robust features required. Most rod models are now 2pc for ease of travel and storage, and the construction format is ‘removable handle’ which provides the superior technical design of rod blank ferrules.

Ian’s trademarked ‘Control Freak’ style handles are incorporated to maximise sensitivity and comfort while reducing weight and are ‘minimalist’ by design – no excessive material or weight are present. All seat parts are original Fuji Tackle components, with custom made trims.

These handle designs are presented in the Millerods instantly recognisable custom ‘Camoufish’ pattern in x-firm EVA material. This EVA is hard wearing, easier to fish with, and looks great!

All guide trains are original Fuji Tackle. This includes the latest ‘Fazlite’, ‘Torzite’ and ‘Slim Ring’ ceramics, as well as Fuji titanium frames on the light saltwater rod models.

All lure casting and spinning rods incorporate custom made Hook Keepers designed by Ian to be easy to use, minimalist, and totally tangle proof. Whether you’re hanging a 1 gm soft plastic or 13oz swimbait on your rod, you can rely on the hook keeper being in the right place and the correct size for the lure.

The BeastFreak Australian model was the first of our Production Range which has now been joined by rods specifically designed for Australian bass, barramundi, snapper, mulloway, bream, Murray cod, golden perch, and other native fish, freshwater fish, and saltwater fish including big game billfish and tuna.

The landscape of freshwater lure fishing in Australia is changing. As the influence of bass techniques from the USA bass fisheries takes hold, our own approach to fishing is changing.

Along with that comes new tackle designs to enable us to fish imported techniques on our local fish to their full effect… Enter the SwitchFreak!

Specifically designed to be versatile – enabling the angler to ‘switch’ between one lure to another without needing to change the outfit – you can easily cast spinnerbaits; pitch, hop or drag a jig; bomb out a cast with a topwater and more, all on the same rod!

The secret lies in the multi-loading action of this exclusive custom blank, which is so smooth in transition from casting to retrieve to fighting that you’ll seamlessly switch from one technique to another.

Inspired by Ian’s US bass rod designs, this rod is a mirror image of his American SwitchFreak model, but in the ‘Aussie’ style to better suit our tackle preferences. The rod is an ideal ‘cross-over’ for big goldens and Murray Cod – in fact if you are after a single rod to fish all the latest techniques in your local river, this is the rod!

In the US, this rod action is used for spinnerbaits, jigs and Frog lure fishing… and it is just at home with these techniques in Australia – in fact as a river ‘Frogn’ rod, it has no equal!

The light weight and true, even balance of this rod makes it hard to believe that this is a 7’3”, 2pc med/heavy weight rod! This also massively increases sensitivity which, when combined with the light tip weight creates an outfit that almost floats in the hand. This is perfect for any ‘tip-up’ lure retrieving technique as very little effort is required to fish for a long session. And the 2pc design with detachable handle makes transport and storage a breeze.

The multi-guide train of 11 guides plus tip-top in Fuji ‘KW’ Fazlite guides runs true and easy, further enhancing the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

The secret lies in the multi-loading action of this exclusive custom blank, which is so smooth in transition from casting to retrieve to fighting that you’ll seamlessly switch from one technique to another.

Inspired by Ian’s US bass rod designs, this rod is a mirror image of his American SwitchFreak model, but in an ‘Ultra-Light’ power rating to better suit our lures and our native bass. The rod is also ideal for goldens and big redfin – in fact any of our fish that will respond to lures of these styles.

The weight and balance of this rod is so ridiculous that it is hard to believe that this is a 7’3”, 2pc bass rod! This also massively increases sensitivity which when combined with the faultless balance creates an outfit that almost floats in the hand which is priceless when it comes to a long session of pitching or jig casting. And the 2pc design with detachable handle makes transport and storage a breeze.

The multi-guide train of semi-micro Fuji Fazlite guides runs true and easy, further enhancing the overall smoothness of this rod performance.

The Millerods SwitchFreak UL is such a remarkable rod you won’t want to stop at just one on the deck!

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.
